Samuel Thomas-Holland

Originally undertaking vocal studies at WAAPA in Western Australia with Fiona Campbell and Linda Barcan, Baritone Samuel Thomas-Holland then moved to Brisbane to continue his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University (QCGU). As a recipient of a Hans Henkel Young Artist Scholarship in 2015, Samuel participated in the Melbourne Opera Studio/Gertrude Opera Program based in Melbourne and went on to win the audience achievement award at the final concert. Later that year Samuel was awarded a scholarship to attend the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School in Brisbane and was also invited to perform in Sydney at the Cell Block Theatre with the alumni of the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School in a fundraiser concert.

In 2016 Samuel performed as a soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra’s Love, Death and Happy Endings concert and was the recipient of the Encouragement Award as part of the Joan Sutherland Vocal Competition, also in Queensland. Later that year he went on to represent Australia in the Hans Gabor International Belvedere Singing Competition, held in Cape Town, South Africa and as a result of this performance, Samuel was invited to perform in Switzerland touring with the Opera Festival for Young Voices. Recent roles include Commandatore(Don Giovani), Schaunard(La Boheme), Dancairo (Carmen), Sommerset(The Floods a Touring Opera)with Queensland Conservatorium, The Squire(Thomas and Sally) as well as covering The Mad House Keeper(Rake’s Progress), the Ferryman(Curlew River) and the Judge(Trial By Jury). As a Baritone soloist, Samuel has performed in Mozart Requiem with Victoria Chorale, Ballarat Choral Society and the Ballarat Wind Orchestra, as well as participating in More Than Opera ‘s Masterclass with renowned mezzo soprano, Deborah Humble.
