Louise Keast

Louise Keast initially trained in classical voice at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, before completing a Bachelor in Art History and Curatorship at the Australian National University. While in Canberra, Louise was a Friends of Opera Scholar (2016-17) and Wesley Music Scholar (2014-16). Most notable of the operatic roles that Louise has performed are Mimi (Puccini, La Bohéme, Canberra Opera), Widow Anna (Lehár-Australian Adaptation, The Merry Widow from Bluegum Creek, Queanbeyan Players), Suor Genovieffa and La Suora Infermia (Puccini, Suor Angelica, Canberra Opera), Lucy (Menotti, The Telephone, self-produced) and Geraldine (Barber, A Hand of Bridge, self-produced). Since relocating in 2017 to Warrnambool, Victoria, Louise has founded South West Opera Workshop; an opera company for young artists to mount site-inspired operatic productions in regional Victoria through collaboration with local communities. South West Opera Workshop’s inaugural production will be Mozart’s The Impresario at Mozart Hall in Warrnambool, January 2018. Louise is a passionate performer of art song, participating in the 4th WAAPA International Art Song Academy (2017) under the tutelage of Dr Graham Johnson OBE, and recently performing in master classes with Yvonne Kenny AM (2017 & 2015). In 2016 Louise co-founded Revival House Project, an ongoing cross-disciplinary artist’s run initiative interested in exploring the genre of song via collaboration with visual artists. Louise enjoys utilizing her voice and performance practice in unconventional capacities, and has premiered site-specific performance artworks in collaboration with visual artist Hannah Quinlivan in Berlin (ZK/U (Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik), Canberra (National Portrait Gallery), Melbourne (Nite Art 17, Flinders Lane Gallery & Deakin University Art Gallery) and Sydney (Sydney Art Month 2016, M Contemporary).
